  • Why Caterers Can't Quote Exact Prices At First Contact

Brides seem to get frustrated at times when they first contact prospective caterers and they can’t get a solid price per person quote. It’s not because caterers are trying to hide the prices, at least not the good ones. The simple truth to it is that most good caterers want you to have the chance to pick and choose styles of menus, menu items and rentals items before they can give you a fair quote. Don’t get me wrong, brides should at least be able to see sample menus with pricing once they speak with a caterer but companies, like Merri-Makers Caterers, want the chance to customize a menu just for your event.

Sitting down with the event consultant and giving him or her a good idea of what you are looking for and what type of budget you are working with will always work out better than taking a stock wedding menu and adding on items a la carte. For example, if you wanted to add a specialty station, like an oyster bar, to your cocktail hour and you called to ask for a quote for that add-on to the original menu, the caterer would give you the standard price for that add-on. Great, so now $89.00 per guest has increased to $99.00 per guest. Now if you spoke with the caterer from the start and told them that you really wanted an oyster bar during cocktail hour, the caterer would incorporate that into the quote they give you for the wedding based on the budget that you gave them to work with. The caterer may take some of the less popular butlered hors d’ouevres off of the proposal or reduce the quantities of food on the crudite display in order to get the oyster bar to fit into your budget. Now $89.00 per guest is only $94.00 per guest or maybe the original price doesn’t change at all.
